Travelling Textiles - Paula Byles
A selection of my textile pieces created over the last 10 years whilst travelling and living in mainland Europe, and now Borneo, Malaysia.

This is a time lapse film showing the area around Sauze and Guillaume in France, where the inspiration for the textile pieces came from.
I am going to visit this area this weekend to re-photograph the river with a better quality camera and on a panoramic setting. However, last time I went up, the river was grey/brown colour as opposed to the vivid blue it was when I began this project. There us still snow on the Alps and it's been raining recently.
We are hoping to see an abundance of wild flowers on top of the mountains, especially after all this rain.

Sometimes I forget that happiness is within my grasp.
This was created on a large piece of hessian, the threads were mainly wool. The beads came from a very dubious beaded waistcoat I used to wear in the '90's. As you can see I know about 4 embroidery stitches, including my favourite chain stitch, french knots and the spiderweb one. I like her toes the best!

This is where the ideas come from, The River Var in 'le Georges de Dalius' , near Guillaumes, France. We spend a lot of our time here camping. It's about 2 hours drive from where we live.
